The territory's word lovers were in motion and ready to compete in the BVI Secondary School Spelling Bee Competition. On Friday June 4, 6 students from secondary schools across the territory came together to challenge the judges with their spelling skills in the final round.
Rhiann Ramlall from Bregado Flax Educational Centre on Virgin Gorda was crowned the champion with Lennox Clancy from CIBONEY Centre of Excellence, also on Virgin Gorda, claiming second and sitting in third place was Daniel Nelson from Claudia Creque Educational Centre on Anegada.
Representing the Elmore Stoutt High school was Alyssa Penn who placed fourth place.
This Ninth grader has inspired many with her courage. She went to the finals
without a partner like the other schools. Alyssa tied for second in the preliminary round and continued to spell. Alyssa is also a member of ESHS' Junior Concert Band as a trumpeter.
In her spare time, she enjoys drawing, designing, dancing, listening to music and playing
video games. Alyssa is a consistent honour student, who her teachers describe as intelligent and hardworking.
So remember the face and the name Alyssa Penn, we're sure we haven't heard the last from her. Alyssa, your RAMS NATION family salutes and supports you!
